Halloween Grooves

Tonight we had a Halloween Disco at our school. Yep, it was just as it sounds....a dance party for a bunch of kids in Halloween costumes. It was great fun! There were dances ranging from YMCA to the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I think I had more fun than most of the kids. :) There is something so fun about being silly with a bunch of kids. Honestly, if I could find a job that allowed me to dance around and be silly with kids all day then I'd have it made. Being a teacher just isn't quite the same. To top it off, I then went to my dance class and spent an hour doing the original choreography to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Yeah, you can picture it, can't you? Yep.....it was great!!! It was a total "13 going on 30" moment.

A Good Roast (not the kind you eat)

We went to a farewell party Saturday night for a couple who is moving back to Florida. Phil and Karen have been in St Andrews for three years while Phil worked on his PhD. They have been known throughout the St Mary's community for their hospitality. Anytime we needed a venue for a baby shower, book club, or party Phil and Karen were the first to open their home. They are genuinely giving people and we will truly miss them. The party had lots of people, laughter, and food. Oh let me tell you about the food....chips and bread with a myriad of dips; I'm talking anything from spinach dip, artichoke dip, 7 layer bean dip to plain old ranch dressing dip. It was great! I've always been a big fan of a good dip! The party finished off with a traditional roast and toast, and I've got to say that any roast that involves naked stories is a good roast. :) It got me thinking, what would people say about Jeff and me when we leave? I've got just 9 or 10 months to do some stuff crazy enough to make sure our roast is a good one. (Don't worry, Mom, none of them will involve being naked.)

Being Let Down...

Well, I have officially been let down by Greggs. Twice I have gone in to get one of my beloved chicken pasties, and twice I've been told that they were all out of chicken pasties for the day (which translates to "We close in just over an hour and we can't be bothered to put any more pasties in the oven.") Honestly, I think they put the last batch in around 3pm and just wait until they sell out. Then all of us who come in to get a pasty after 3.30pm are just out of luck! I'm not even going to get into how incredibly irritated that makes me. I mean, some of us work for a living. So basically every time I try to get a pasty afer work I'm going to be told that they are out of pasties for the day. If you advertise that you're open until 5pm then shouldn't you actually provide food until then? Some people's kids!

Designer Theology

So if the devil wears Prada, what does God wear? Dolce & Gabbana? Or is He more of a discount shopper?

What do you do?

Picture it... you're a teacher in the middle of teaching a Math lesson... and a nine-year-old girl lets one... yeah, you know what I mean. And it's not one of those quiet ones. It's not even one of those short, loud ones. It's one of those really long trumpet-sounding ones. That alone causes complete havoc in the group as you struggle to keep a straight face; however, it doesn't end there. Just a second or two later follows this smell that could put a university student off finishing his Guiness. I'm talking the raunchiest stank that ever has and ever will exist. Being the responsible, mature teacher that you are, you tell the children to ignore the smell and concentrate on their work. Well, that proves to be absolutely impossible. It was sooo bad that I actually had to step out of the room. How terrible am I? I leave the kids in the room to deal with the smell and I step out into the hall to get my breath back. Teacher's are the most hypocritical people. You've gotta love it. :)

Small Town Excitement

It's amazing what can get you excited when you've been living in a small town for a year. Only those who visited us in London can truly appreciate the reaction I had when on my way home I saw the glorious blue, white and orange sign of the UK's best and famous pasty-making bakery. I was overjoyed to see that Greggs had moved into town. For those who haven't experienced the delicacy that is the chicken pasty (pronounced with the short 'a' sound), it's similar in look to a pizza pocket and comes with a choice of fillings such as chicken, steak, or ham and cheese.... The chicken pasty is hands down the most delicious food in all of the UK....and it only costs 89 pence! You just can't beat that! With Greggs in town this is guaranteed to be the best frickin' freezing Christmas ever!

To Blog or Not to Blog...

So I thought I was anti-blog until I recently found myself regularly checking friends' blogs and not only enjoying them but actually looking forward to reading them. So since I can no longer say that I'm officially anti-blog I thought... why not start my own? So here I am typing a completely pointless message on my new blogspot...a task which I really don't have time for but what the hay...everyone else does it so why shouldn't I? :) So I am proud to introduce to you the new and exciting blog of Meigan Marie Oldfield. Sit back, relax and enjoy the futile adventures.
